It is only November, but winter has arrived in Jackson County High Country. We have some snow on the ground but not enough for the grooming equipment to start preparing the snowmobile trails.
This large male moose decided to stop by the pond during a snow storm. He has survived the hunting season and hasn’t lost his antlers yet.
The Snow Snakes Snowmobile Club has set their 2014 Poker Run for March 1, 2014. This is always a fun event exploring the trails in the Colorado State Park Forest and surrounding area. Our Lodge will be a stop for the event. Make sure you mark your calendars and make your reservations for a fun weekend.
The Forest Service has also announced the the trail over Illinois Pass from Grand Lake will be open this year. This opens a lot of trails that had been closed for the past two years as the Forest Service removed dead trees from the beetle kill from around the trails. We look forward to seeing many groups from Grand lake visiting our area this year. Remember, we have snowmobile gas.
The Moose Visitors Center at the Colorado State Forest Park will be hostubg their annual Snowshoe and Cross-Country event the last weekend of February. Skiing and/or snowshoeing in the moon light is a great experience.
We will be closed for a short while from November 30 through December 16, 2013. Then we will open for the winter season. With the early now, a new snow grooming machine and more trails being open this year, we look forward to a great winter season.
