Located within 5 miles of Colorado State Forest and Colorado State Park, and one mile from Routt National Forest, we are the closest full service lodge in the Gould Area. The Colorado State Park has miles of great hiking with excellent fishing in streams and lakes. Michigan Reservoir is only 5 minutes away, and Ranger Lakes are as close as 10 minutes. The Moose and Visiting Center for the Park is only 5 miles up the road for Clark Peak Cabins and Lodge. You can find out all about one of the largest land animals in the United States, the Moose, as well as have a good chance of seeing one in their meadows.
Routt National Park is accessed via County Road 21 accessed at the cross-roads where Clark Peak Cabins and Lodge are located. There are many camping sites in the forest as well as access the streams feeding the Michigan River which runs right behind our property.
The Arapahoe National Wildlife Refuge is located on west on Highway 14 between Gould and Walden. During the spring and summer you might see elk, moose and lots of water fowl and during the winter it is a gathering ground for Elk. In North Park, you can visit BLM Land with Sand Dunes in the middle of mountain meadows.
Lake John and Delaney Butte Lakes are located 20 miles away and provide fishing a good part of the year. Both lakes are famous for their large browns, rainbows and native trout. Lake John has ice fishing in the winter. Lake John Lodge provides a place to grab a quick bite when you are fishing or visiting the area.
We are located directly on 130 plus miles of snowmobile, ATV and dirt bike trails. You can ride from the Clark Peak Cabins to Grand Lake and back in only 1 day utilizing Forest Service Roads up and over Illinois Pass.
We not only have trails for snowmobiling, ATV and dirt bikes but also hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing
We also have a private fishing pond on site for guests of Clark Peak Cabins and Lodge. While not a large pond, it has proven to be a great place for Browns and Rainbows that have been stocked over the past 7 years. Fishing is catch and release only….with the exception if your Under 12 child catches a fish, she may keep it! We ask that only flies and lures be used in the pond.
